This was the first project in this class, and I still consider it one of my most creative and well executed. I didn’t know how to create a non-objective image using the shape of a hand, so I wanted to create the illusion of a hand, without explicitly outlining them. Instead, the hands are surrounded by different patterns and shapes which fill up the background, alternating between framing and filling in the hand. I believe I successfully accomplished this illusion. The piece showcases obvious hand outlines, but through a creative twist. Additionally, the pieces of pure black prevent the piece from becoming too detailed and help the hands stand out. If I was to go back, I would keep the patterns consistent within the entire piece, and play around with using the lines to curve around the implied hand: something I started doing towards the end of the project.
